Blog Tour Interview On Roxanne's Realm

If you're wondering how I came up with the title for the Temple of Indra's Jewel or if the characters, or any scenes are based on a true life experience then you need to check out my interview on Roxanne's Realm .

Look who Made The Paper

Feeling very blessed to have just seen the Orono Weekly Times. I was interviewed by the delightful Peggy Foster a week ago and I must say that it was an amazing experience. I was very nervous -- so used to being on the other side of the pen that I rambled on about everything from my writing group to my childhood all the way to my favourite authors. All in regards to my writing career of course, wink wink, and yet Peggy managed to weave it all into a beautifully coherent article. What a fantastic experience! Thank you: Peggy, Roxanne and Marg and everyone else involved in putting out this awesome local paper. Please be sure to grab a copy if you haven't already and check it out. http://www.oronoweeklytimes.com/

September's launch date is fast approaching so I'm looking for volunteers willing to read the book in advance and review it on GoodReads or private blogs before the launch date, and also – perhaps most importantly – copy that review to Amazon as soon as the book becomes available. Any takers? Return of the Marred Manuscript: Reviewing & Approving the Copy Edit

It’s been a little over three weeks since I sent my Temple of Indra manuscript off for the copy edit and it’s just come back. As I sit with coffee in hand I can't help but revel in the butterflies that flit at my anticipation. It’s become a work of art filled with red crossed out lines and dotted blue side bubbles. Not to worry - no actual ink was harmed in the process of this edit. My manuscript may be marred but I'm happy that it’s one step closer to print. Now comes the part where I read over all of their suggested modifications accepting or declining with fervor. Thank goodness for the track changes function as well as the clean copy they've sent. Having taken a quick peek I can already tell I’m going to love it. No major plot or character issues just good old fashioned grammatical corrections, which I’m always happy to pawn off on the experts.

The Best Time to Release a Novel: Summer vs. Fall

Image
Since I’m in the midst of publishing my first novel right now, I’ve found myself pondering questions that I’ve never considered before. Such as, is there a best time of year to release a book? My editor is pushing for the fall. However, personally when I think of September, I think of busy hectic traffic filled days. Getting the kids off to school, gridlock, meetings, picking the kids up from school, soccer practice, making dinner and the list goes on. When I think of reading, which I often do, I think of the beach or my pool. Lazy summer Saturdays spent in the backyard with a paperback and a beer. Am I wrong? What about all of the vacationers, teachers and summer hour people. Summertime means more free time, doesn’t it? I On the other hand I read the summer months were bad for sales, because of vacation, weddings, family reunions, and summer camp which all equate to a lack of funds. I’m hoping my reader's burning desire for the Temple of Indra will outweigh all other priorities.

Publishing a Book: Getting the Editors Evaluation Back ... Dun Dun Dun!

Image
Today all is right with the world. I'm sitting at my kitchen table, light reflecting off the pool enjoying a large cup of coffee and reading my Editor's Evaluation Notes. It's like ecstasy for my mind.  Here's a direct quote out of the evaluation.  "The evaluator still finds Sophia/Sapphira to be an appealing character. Here is a line that made the evaluator laugh out loud.  p. 116 Maybe I did watch too many scary shows or maybe I just needed to smoke a fatty.  Glad to see they have a sense of humour or perhaps just the munchies. :)  Apart from the usual mechanical stuff, they find it ... dare I say, perfect. Well, at least they're not pointing out any flaws and they're constantly praising my changes in every section. Which ultimately means no more edits for me. The final copy edit will lay with them. *Sigh

Slow & Steady Wins The Race

Image
These were the first words I heard out of my editors mouth last night regarding my novel, The Purple Delhi Sapphire , the first book in The Temple of Indra Series . The next was Congratulations! The overwhelming joy inside me could not be contained. Commence the wine drinking! Hopefully my trainer isn't reading this but it couldn't be helped. This book has been a long time in the making and it often feels like the snails are lapping me. However, after working incessantly finalizing the finishing touches I’m so happy to share it’s been chosen for the Editor's Choice Award. Love it! I cannot wait to hold the final product in my hands and sign copies for all of you. Now it's just the final copy edit done at the Publishers - need to make sure the p’s and q’s are in place and hopefully this book will be hitting the shelves by the end of the Summer 2013 . Now I just need to stumble my way through all of the marketing. ‘Out of the pan and into the fire’ or s

The Next Big Thing

Image
I am participating in an online writers event called The Next Big Thing which provides an overview of all kinds of upcoming and recent novels.   It's kind of fun like a Blog Hop. Each person tagged answers a series of interview questions and posts them on his/her blog or website while linking to other writers. My thanks to Ann  Dulhanty , who tagged me from  her blog . Ann and I are in the same writers group The B7. Ann has a great sense of humour which I get into enjoy weekly when she reads excerpts from her work. The story Ann is currently working on is Urban Fantasy called the Odds of the God about Brigit, a blackjack-dealing, Vegas druid on a mission to save the world. Below, I’ve answered questions about my novel and at the end I direct you to the blog of another author who will tell you about her upcoming story next week. 1) What is the working title of your next book? The Temple of Indra Jewels  2) Where did the idea come from for the book? The idea first ca
